My experience in the field of Outdoor and Out of home Advertising is extensive. I am able to provide knowledgeable advice regarding many facets of the medium, be it in the UK or for many overseas Countries.

Whilst in Portland and Poster Publicity, my main responsibility was to open up International possibilities. This involved learning more about the OOH medium in targeted Countries - studying the way the medium operates in each market, and getting to know the individuals involved, both in terms of those we would be working with in the market, and to find suitable, likeminded people to work with us. It is surprising how different accounting principles and legal practices are country by country. To open an office in another market needs some thorough investigation. In some cases, New York for example I was involved in negotiating and buying an existing company.

Relationships with Agencies and Advertisers needed to be built, as did links with Associations, where relevant.

Each market is different, and therefore needed to be dealt with slightly differently. Some countries were not used to the specialist phenomenon, they needed special attention.

Information that is available within the evaluation and research area varies by market - and in order to deliver correct results to the client, special care had to be taken.

I addition to expanding the network, there has been specific project work - analysing a particular sector of the medium, in a number of markets for various clients, to see the issues that exist and consider what changes might be helpful into the future.

Communication within any Company is important, and arranging management meetings, at various levels to ensure good communication and direction was also part of the role.

Over the years I have been keen to see the OOH medium become more credible and accountable, on a global scale. Sharing knowledge and information is an important part of this. I was involved at the beginning of the English Speaking International Association - formed in 1979, and have attended all the conferences over the years. I have presented papers at most of them as well as at FEPE conferences and at the American Association - the OAAA - conventions.
